To many, The Smell is a cultural institution. Dedicated to the principle of D.I.Y., this Los Angeles venue has played a vital role in the city’s music and art scene since 1998 by hosting affordable ALL AGES shows featuring a plethora of bands including No Age, Mika Miko, HEALTH, Vivian Girls, Abe Vigoda, and Ty Segall.
This pin depicts the front of The Smell (entrance to the shows are in the back), where a mural was painted in 2007 by Amanda Vietta Andersen for a photograph used for the No Age record "Weirdo Rippers". This mural and facade perplexed locals for years (it has since been painted over) but for the initiated it remains an enduring image of a legendary community oriented art and music space open to people of all ages who are interested in participating in and supporting an environment of creativity, artistic innovation, and freedom.
